Step-by-Step Guide

١

Clear Outstanding Fines & Get Clearance

Before renewal, all outstanding traffic violations must be fully paid. Check your fines online via the Public Prosecution portal, pay via card or Fawry code, and print out the certified clearance certificate (Bara'at Zimmah). Without this certificate, the renewal officer or digital portal will block your request.

٢

Purchase Approved Fire Extinguisher & Safety Kit

If this is your technical inspection year, preparing safety equipment is mandatory. Make sure your dry powder 1kg fire extinguisher is active, and you have a warning triangle and a medical first-aid kit. You can purchase them from certified auto stores or directly from the official 'Aman' governmental kiosk inside the traffic unit.

Madam Afaf Tip: Watch out, my dear! When you enter the traffic unit, brokers will rush to you saying 'I have cheap extinguishers and triangles that will pass the test'. Never buy from them! These extinguishers are usually counterfeit or expired and will get rejected in the inspection lane, forcing you to pay twice! Go straight inside and buy your extinguisher, triangle, and first-aid kit from the certified 'Aman' government kiosk inside the yard to get an official receipt. Also, keep a flathead screwdriver and a size 10 wrench in your glovebox, so if you need to unscrew your plates, you can do it yourself without paying anyone!

Pay Taxes, Insurance & Retrieve the Registration Card

Go to the compulsory insurance window inside the traffic unit and buy the insurance policy for your preferred duration (1, 2, or 3 years). Then head to the cashier to pay outstanding taxes, licensing fees, and the RFID electronic sticker cost. Finally, submit your complete folder to the licensing officer. Wait a few minutes, and you will receive your new printed plastic registration card!

Frequently Asked Questions

What official values are published for some private-car tiers?
The official traffic portal publishes a private-car fee table showing EGP 225 up to 1000cc, EGP 255 from 1001 to 1300cc, and EGP 290 from 1300 to 1600cc. For some higher categories, the portal states that the value varies by model year and the tax-authority vehicle value, so we do not show a single fixed figure here.
Can I renew my vehicle license without a physical inspection?
Yes, physical technical inspections for private (Malaki) passenger cars are required once every 3 years. In the intermediate years (Year 1 and Year 2), you can pay your taxes and compulsory insurance and renew completely online via the Digital Egypt portal to receive the new card at home via post, with no physical traffic unit visit required.
How much is the compulsory third-party insurance?
Compulsory third-party insurance is charged annually as a prerequisite for registration. Compulsory insurance varies by vehicle class, engine size, and the charges applied at submission time, and usually rises for higher categories. It is collected for the Egyptian Insurance Pool.
What is the electronic RFID sticker and how do I get it?
The electronic sticker (RFID) is a smart adhesive microchip compulsory on your front windshield. It contains all vehicle license and chassis metadata to enable automated traffic monitoring and toll payments. Its charge varies by route and the fees applied when you pay the annual taxes at the cashier window.
What should I do if I lost my current vehicle registration card?
If you lose your expired registration card, you must immediately visit the local police station to file a lost item report. Then, attend the traffic unit to request a 'Vehicle Data Certificate' (Shahadat Bayanat) addressed to the Prosecution to retrieve your fines, then proceed with the renewal steps and pay the lost replacement fee.
Is there a late penalty if I delay renewal after expiration?
After the grace period, extra penalties or stronger review requirements may apply depending on the current rules and your file status, so we do not show a fixed figure here unless it is clearly published by the authority. Check the traffic unit or official portal before payment.
